Why should I learn this?

There have been a lot of changes to the way teachers teach Math over the last decade. A lot of studies have been conducted about the way we teach Math to students, how they learn, how to make deeper Mathematical connections and how Math relates to the world around them. In an effort to put an end to students asking their teacher "Why should I learn this? I'll never use it in real life" here is a place for ideas to plan effective Math lesson that engage your students to see Mathematics as something useful everyday.

Cross Curricular

Using Math to plan cross curricular is another way to help students gain a deeper understanding of Math and how it fits into their life everyday.  While doing long range plans teachers might want to think about the order in which they teach and can somethings complement one another.  For example teacher linear measurement at the same time as structures and mechanisms in science.

There are many resources and ideas out there for cross curiccular planning, Queen's University have created a site dedicated to this.  Not every single one has Math, but most of them do. Take a Look!
